The Grand Egyptian Museum Tour

Overview

The GEM Complex is presently under limited tours meant to gauge both the preparedness of the test site and visitor experience before going fully public.

What is available at present includes only the Grand Hall and Grand Staircase, commercial area plus exterior gardens.

All other interior spaces, galleries, and collections are strictly off-limits until further notice from management who will make an official pronouncement regarding their availability.

The Giza Museum is officially called the Grand Egyptian Museum.

It is being set up as an archaeological site at a distance of hardly 2 kilometers (1.2 mi) from the Giza pyramid complex in Giza, Egypt.

More than 100 thousand artifacts of ancient Egyptian civilization will be housed under this museum with the full Tutankhamun collection-where-most items will see daylight for the first time they have ever been displayed.

The building will offer 872,000 square feet (81,000 m²) of floor area and, indeed, it shall become acknowledged as the world's largest archaeological museum.

The project forms part of a broader master plan for the Giza Plateau under an initiative referred to as "Giza 2030."

What To Expect

Grand Egyptian Museum

The Grand Egyptian Museum, or GEM Complex, is holding limited tours now as part of an exercise to evaluate site readiness while fine-tuning the visitor experience before its official inauguration. At this time, only the Grand Hall, Grand Staircase, commercial area, and exterior gardens are open for viewing. All other interior spaces plus galleries and collections will be kept under wraps until the very moment of opening. The museum is known to be the biggest in the world and keeps about 100,000 artifacts comprising the famous collection of King Tut.
