The building is in the shape of a blunt triangle and is located two kilometres north-west of the Pyramids of Giza, near the Cairo-Alexandria motorway junction.
The north and south walls of the building face the Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Menkaure. In front of the building is a large square filled with date palms.
One of the main features of the museum is the translucent alabaster stone wall that forms the front of the building. Inside, the main entrance opens onto a large atrium that leads to the museum's exhibition rooms.
