The Grand Egyptian Museum Hosts the International Conference on Crisis Culture 2025
The Grand Egyptian Museum hosted the International Conference on Crisis Culture 2025, organised by the Victoria and Albert Museum in the UK in collaboration with the British Council in Cairo. The event brought together a distinguished group of Egyptian and international experts and specialists in the fields of cultural heritage, development and the creative industries.
In his opening remarks, Dr Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Grand Egyptian Museum Authority, expressed his pleasure in hosting this global gathering. He emphasised that a conference dedicated to the “culture of crisis” underlines the role of the museum as a cultural hub. This institution preserves history and civilisation while inspiring a more innovative and promising future.
The conference programme features interactive sessions led by experts from the heritage, development, cultural and creative sectors. Using Cairo as a key case study, the sessions will also draw on comparable experiences from around the world.
A key platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange, the conference will provide an opportunity to review best practices on how heritage conservation can contribute to sustainable development, community engagement and strategies to address climate change.
Hosting this event is part of the Grand Egyptian Museum’s experimental opening activities, as it positions itself as a cultural complex and urban landmark. It reflects the museum's global standing as a centre of innovation and creativity, a guardian of heritage and a driving force in strengthening Egyptian identity and its presence on the international stage.
