Grand Egyptian Museum Presents Traces of Egypt, an Exhibition by Susan Hefuna
In her piece Traces of Egypt, Hefuna brings her extensive knowledge of textile artistry to bear, working with local artisans to create a series of 28 Egyptian cotton costumes that pay homage to the Khayamiya tradition.
The garments feature connecting dots and lines that echo Hefuna's intricate drawings and draw on her famous architectural works, such as the giant wooden mashrabiya screens.
They show use and beauty, the combined ways of art and life in old and new Egypt.
They represent the country's great wealth and stress the need to preserve it for those who will come after. If you care about modern art and the culture of this place, seeing Traces of Egypt is a must.
