The Grand Egyptian Museum has won the coveted Versailles award as one of the seven most attractive museums in 2024 at a UNESCO event in Paris. Creativity while reflecting local heritage and demonstrating environmental efficiency were key factors in placing it on a pedestal above many other global landmarks. Ambassador Alaa Youssef presents his credentials as Resident Representative of the Arab Republic of Egypt to UNESCO.

The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathi, said that this success comes in parallel with the pre-opening of the museum, while representing a value that would attract both Egyptians and foreigners.

He took the opportunity to pay tribute to all those who worked on the realisation of this gigantic national project, which is considered one of the most important modern achievements in Egypt, in addition to being the largest museum in the world dedicated to a single civilisation.

Dr Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Grand Egyptian Museum, noted that the Versailles Prize is a major international award that has been held every year since 2015 at the UNESCO headquarters for the best works of contemporary architecture from around the world, which includes museums, sports, hotels, and airports. He went on to say that there seems to be a design perspective taken from the rays of sunlight emanating from the tops of the three pyramids of Giza, giving the Grand Egyptian Museum a triangular shape.
